Grand Annual Collection

Dear Parishioners and Benefactors,

As you know, every parish in the Archdiocese of Boston has a Grand Annual Collection to supplement the income that comes mostly from the weekly collection that is taken up at every Sunday Mass. Thanks to your generosity, over the past eleven years, we have been able to pay our bills and to accomplish expensive repairs and renovation of our buildings without incurring any debt. Still more work remains to be done, and we hope to begin, as soon as this coming March, the interior restoration of Saint Leonard Church. Sacred Heart Church is also showing signs of aging, and some structural work is becoming urgent to prevent the building from falling into disrepair.

We are grateful to all of you for what you do for your parish. We are even more indebted to the many tourists and benefactors, who from outside of the North End and even from outside the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, contribute to our finances by sending donations that are at times substantial. I take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to the increasing number of families who, in the happy occasion of a birthday or a wedding anniversary or the sad event of a death in the family, suggest to make a donation to the parish in lieu of gifts/ flowers.

I can sincerely state that the cost of maintaining our churches is much beyond our financial strength and without a considerable communal effort it would be difficult to operate even a single one of the three North End churches. All these considerations should serve to explain the reason why we urge you to make an extra sacrifice by contributing to the best of your ability to our Grand Annual Collection.

We need everyone’s help, and we appeal in a special way to those who ordinarily do not contribute to the finances of the Parish. I pray that at least once a year, they welcome our plea to extend a donation, as generous as their means permit, to our parish. For those who find it more convenient, their pledges could be honored in installments.

We entrust ourselves and all of you to the Divine Providence by which God gener¬ously provides for our material and spiritual needs. May He inspire all of us to imitate His generosity in sharing whatever He entrusts to us, His stewards, and to do all that we can to share in the saving mission of Christ and His Church.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Antonio Nardoianni, OFM
